ECONOMIC INDICATORS
There are three types of economic indicatord, leading, lagging, and coincident.
LEADING INDICATORS
Their are eleven components of the Leading Indicators Index (LEI):
- Average Work Week - manufacturing
- Initial Unemployment claims
- Manufacturers' new orders for products (consumer goods)
- Vendor Performance
- Plant and equipment orders
- New private housing units authorized by local building permits
- Change in manufacturers' unfilled orders (durable goods)
- Change in sensitive materials prices
- Stock Prices, S&P 500
- Money supply - M2
- Index of consumer expectations
LAGGING INDICATORS
These indicators are those factors of the economy that lag behind in relation to economic activity.
The six components of the Laggin indicators index include
- Unemployment Rate
- Business Spending
- Unit Labor Costs
- Bank Loans Outstanding
- Bank Interest Rates
- Book Value of Manufacturing and Trade Inventories
COINCIDENT INDICATORS
These are indicators that which remain with the pace of the current trends in the economy.
